A book sale

August 12, 2009 by Solc

My students at SEBTS are buying my book Communicating on the Playing Field. Because of their interest, the bookstore had to order more copies. My hope is that they will put into practice what I write about concerning sports evangelism. If you would like to have a copy or you would like to give the book to your pastor, call me at 919-570-5077 and I will be glad to send you as many copies as you need.

Mission Trip to Czech Republic

July 14, 2009 by Solc

We took a team of twenty-seven Christians to the Czech Republic where we did sports evangelism. Many High School students came to play sports with us - tennis, flag football, baseball, and lacrosse. After playing sports, those students came to church to speak with us and to hear our proclamation of the gospel. Two of them made professions of faith in Jesus Christ and became active in the church. This is what the pastor wrote to me a month later:

“We are quite excited about the results of your missionary activity in Sokolov. Those two young men are truly converted and show dedication to our Lord. I just started an elementary Bible study (Acts 2:7) with all three clients in Olovi. Please pray for them to be established in faith. The client who accepted Jesus, but had to go back to prison to serve his term, is wearing your t- shirt with John 3:16 on his back. He speaks about Jesus there and his nickname is “priest”. Eight students signed up for the  conversational club for this Fall. Ten students signed up for the baseball club. This is a great opportunity for us to do an effective follow up. We have some people from our church interested in those clubs as well. We heard some good things from people playing tennis, so we think we will build a tennis court next to our new sanctuary. We were offered a large piece of land for three years free of charge where we will play baseball.

We thank God for these wonderful results. We know now that we can use sports to make new contacts and gain new friends who will be willing to hear the Good News from us. We were so pleased that so many students came to play sports with us. And we are even more thankful that they came to be with us during  conversational evenings and that ten of them came even to our biblical hour on Thursday.”

by Dr. Josef Solc

Communicating on the Playing Field is a book about reaching out to people around us through sports. The popularity of sports is a bridge builder to 95% of people living in our world. We, as Christians, long to communicate with all nations, but find it difficult to do it through traditional means...[more]
